Especially if you use social media in personal capacity and don't necessarily present a company (owned by someone else) or another person, it's up to you what you want to do. Write about things you like. Use Twitter against the "rules". It's your blog, or your Twitter feed or your Facebook wall.
It adds tons of personality to your social media presence. It's easier for others to trust you if you are who you are and do what you do and don't try and pretend to be someone else.
Doing as you like is unfortunately difficult. You are likely to get concerned how people around you feel about it. Family members are especially dangerous, so try not to listen to them. Don't worry: Mistakes happen.
