Are my Facebook statuses public or not?

Facebook: Public or friends only

As the Facebook Timeline is available for everyone it seems to stir a question about which content to publish on it and which to remove. In my opinion it's kind of silly to hide some of the content. But hey, the great thing about this so called social media is that everyone does it in their own respectable way.

Surprisingly (to me) not everyone knows who actually can view their statuses. Besides of selecting the default privacy from Privacy Settings you can also control the privacy of each status. And this setting can be changed afterwards.

Basic options are Public and Friends. Besides those the status can be restricted for only yourself or for some of your lists, or even be hidden from certain people or lists.

The chosen setting is viewable on a status. There's a little icon next to the time ("an hour ago", "Wednesday", etc.) of the post. The globe signs Public and two heads is for Friends. The setting can also be changed by clicking that same icon.

The Timeline seems to respect the same settings. Only the public statuses and any other content (info, photos etc.) you've set as public are viewable by anyone.

If you are worried about the fact that the Timeline shows your stupid comments from the past years, don't panic: Your friends already know you are an idiot.
