Pin it!

Everyone talks about Pinterest. So much it took me a while to decide if I'd like to write about it myself. And I know there are people who are so incredibly annoyed by all the fuzz.

Pinterest is kind of an online scrapbook. User can create boards and "pin" images found all over the web on them.

Users can also follow each other, or follow certain boards by another pinner. By following you'll be informed about new pins by these users and can repin (pin them again on your own boards) or like them.

Pins, boards and pinners can also be searched in different ways. There are bunch of board categories and a basic word search.

Website owners can opt-out from allowing their images to be pinned. According to the help-section of Pinterest all you need is to add a little tag in the head of any page on your site.

Pinning however is said to be good for your brand. Just google Pinterest for brands or Pinterest for business for more info. Basically pinning creates positive buzz around pinned brands and products, which obviously is usually a good thing. It can also drive traffic to you site.

The pins can be posted on Twitter and Facebook too. I think it gets easily too spammy, so I haven't turned on the automatic posting on these services.

For me it took some time to get onto pinning. I also had to regulate myself from not making too many different boards and creating the usual categorizing problem. Now, after getting into the flow I most likely make my followers nuts.
