Sorry, I don't think I'm the right person to do this

When you are offered a job or a project, you should take it. Right? Wrong.

Today was one of those moments, when I just had to say: "Sorry, I don't think I'm the right person to do this." It was a project offer from someone I've worked with before and I'm working with currently on another thing. But this one would have had to be ready in a very short time. Unfortunately after asking a couple of additional questions I came to think I might not be able to do it in that time.

Saying no to a job or project offer is really difficult. Especially if you aren't exactly swimming in money like Uncle Scrooge. However saying yes is a bad idea if the job isn't quite your thing or if you are way too unsure if you can actually do it in the set time. It's best for you and for your possible client as well.

Admitting you can't do something is pretty big step. It'll feel most likely pretty horrible, but afterwards it's all better. Saying no for a job or project is good, because then you won't get stuck. With something you can't do (well enough) or that would cause you way too much stress.

It's scary. It's liberating.
