Of entertainment and the Weekly Wrapup

Lately lots of people have noticed (finally) the fact that being entertaining and funny is the way to go with social media. Funny stuff and entertainment gets you more followers, makes people to share your videos and blog posts and gets them come back for more.

It's natural to want to be entertained. Babies want to be entertained. Your cats want to be entertained. There's something very primitive about it.

We look up to entertainers. Actors, musicians, talk show hosts and such folks get our attention. Especially if they are being funny.

This is bad news for those of us who aren't that funny or entertaining by our nature. As I Tweeted the other day, it's difficult to be intentionally funny. When I'm truly funny, it's usually at least mostly unintentional. And it doesn't happen too often.

I cannot tell you how to do it. I don't really know. Entertainment isn't as easy as it looks like.

Viime aikoina monet ovat vihdoinkin hoksanneet, että viihde ja varsinkin hauskuus on se juttu, jolla pärjää sosiaalisen median kanssa. Hauskat jutut ja viihteellisyys lisää seuraajien määrää, saa porukan jakamaan videoitasi ja saa heidät hakeutumaan takaisinkin. On luonnollista haluta viihdytystä. Vauvatkin haluavat tulla viihdytetyksi. Siinä on taustalla jotain alkukantaista. Viihdyttäjät, kuten näyttelijät, muusikot ja muut sen kaltaiset saavat huomiomme. Erityisesti, jos he ovat hauskoja. Tämä on huono uutinen meille, jotka emme ole luonnostamme niin kovin hauskoja ja viihdyttäviä. Kun olen hauska, se on yleensä enemmän tai vähemmän tahatonta.
