About

Hello there! I'm Mervi Emilia Eskelinen, a Digital Craftswoman. I'm a geek and a dreamer. Sometimes I use the pseudonym tasselflower. I have an Etsy shop called tasselflower crafts for digital designs. I'm also a content creator called Bastet Hazelnut in Second Life.

I'm from Finland, which is a country in Northern Europe. I live in the capital city Helsinki, yet I'm originally from a small place called Maaninka. I like to call myself an urban country girl. Or city country girl. Something like that. My native language is Finnish. Therefore please forgive the mistakes I make in English.

Early days

When I was a kid I wanted to be a vet (cause I love animals) and later a writer (cause I love books). In school I dreamed about being an actor. Being on a stage was breathtaking, as it was scary and so great at the same time. I like to think I was rather good at it. I was also very much interested in drawing, painting and crafts. I still am.

During the Finnish high school aka lukio I got really into all the things Internet. I know that's not a real sentence, but I don't know how else to really say that. I sent emails, I roamed over websites, I talked with strangers through IRC and finally at some point created my first, Geocities based site. It was really terrible.

Studies

After lukio I first worked for a year. I did different jobs. I did do some website stuffs too, but mostly it was customer service and such. After the year I started to study Computer Science. 2005 I realized that wasn't exactly my thing and I applied for something more "me".

My bachelor's thesis was published 2009 and it's titled Sosiaalinen media business to business -markkinoinnissa (Social Media in Business to Business Marketing; abstract in English, the rest in Finnish). I created it in co-operation with digital media agency Gyllene Skor and received an excellent grade of it. Spring 2010 I graduated as Bachelor of Culture and Arts/Medianomi (AMK) from Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences.

Now

I work as a freelancer. I make websites, newsletters, logos and also dwell with social media and marketing. If you want to work with me, check out info and contact me through Made In Helmikuu.

I also have a small boutique on Etsy, called tasselflower crafts. There I sell handmade digital goods such as Photoshop brushes, logos, blog banners, clipart, to do -lists and patterns.

Besides work my life includes running, adoring cats, photographing (see Flickr and Instagram) and roaming around the web. I drink tea, watch television shows and movies, listen music (see Spotify and Last.fm), read books and enjoy design.
