This site needed a new design desperately. Unfortunately I was having a bit of a designer's block. Usually I've done very simple and even minimalistic designs for my own sites, but this time I didn't want it to be all white and plain and boring. The only problem was with the inspiration. It just seemed to be gone... There's more, read all »

Lets imagine a web designer. She has a website, which includes blog, general info and contact form. The plan is to include a little portfolio too. The web designer is good at her job. She has been creating web sites since she was a teen and that was over 10 years ago. She knows CSS and can do some pretty neat tricks with it. She is a bit of a perfectionist. Mostly about her own work. She wants to feel pride about what she does and doesn't like to leave things half done. There's more, read all »

The first poll on this site has now closed and it's time to summarize the results. First of all I must remind that this was just a quick poll and nobody seemed to feel like giving any further feedback about the subject. I asked you to tell which type of blogs do you follow the most. The poll was closed automatically after a week had passed. There's more, read all »

As you can see, at the moment there's a free Drupal theme on this site. And because of that, it doesn't tell much about me or my mad web skillz. Cause I do have mad web skillz. The main reason why I haven't done a personal theme (or layout) yet, is the lack of inspiration.

Lets do something about it. As said the site right now doesn't tell much of me. Looks like a little operation self branding could turn out to be useful. Part of this idea of self branding is a game. Game I'd want to give a try and would be very happy if you participated on.

So here's what I'd like YOU to do: Describe me, Mervi Emilia Eskelinen, in three (3) adjectives*. No more, no less. No explanation needed and honesty is great. You can be friend, family member or even a complete stranger. Anyone's input is greatly appreciated and no-one will be judged.

* In Finnish or English preferably.

Please answer my quick and dirty poll about which types of blogs you mostly follow. This poll was inspired by Sun äitis who mentioned she prefers blogs which aren't about a certain theme (in Finnish).

So please tell me, which type of blogs do you follow the most. Do you follow the blogs about one main theme? Or maybe general types of blogs, including lots of different themes and issues (By the way is this sort of a blog)?

Your input is highly appreciated and the poll will be open for a week. I will tell the results later on. The poll is available on the right side of this site and as a separate page. If you want to give some additional info about the subject, comments are welcomed on this post!

Thank you!

In time to time there's a need for generating random passwords. And there's lots of tools, apps and services to do that and they all have lots of different features. Since sometimes I need this sort of tool I created one here on Helmikuu.net. It's quick, it's simple and it generates up to five passwords in time. So if you happen to need a password generator, by all means try the Random password generator.

And while you are there, why don't you give us a shout on the guestbook!

Maintaining a website sounds like an easy job. Especially if the job is to just copy and paste the texts someone else has written or to upload the pictures someone else has taken. Yes, it sounds like an easy job, but really it's not just mindless copy pasting. Usually the photos or texts need some work to be done on them before they can be posted on the website. Sometimes it's hard to understand what the person sending the texts or photos really want to be done with them. Or sometimes the requests are made in a way it's hard to tell if the person behind them has been really busy or if they are being rude and condescending.

I'm not saying the job should be all easy. But if it's not the webmaster's work to be a copywriter and a mindreader, adding or updating a text or a couple of photos shouldn't be extremely hard either. There are some ways to make it just a little easier and make sure there's less errors to be fixed and less emails being sent before that text or those photos finally make their way to the site.
